Nottingham Light Night & a preview of Narrative 2013!

If you saw our recent blog post about celebrating Nottingham Light Night with highly talented lighting designer Stella Corrall, then you’re sure to be as excited as we are about this evening!

Debbie Bryan Studio & Shop will be hosting a Light Night drinks reception from 5pm to 7pm, and Stella Corral will be in our Lace Market shop making and creating, as well as sharing the ethos behind the eco designs of her company Lucentia Design.

On this bright occasion we will also be showcasing lighting collections from Lucy Renshaw, Laura Oliva, Hannah Nunn and Nottingham Eco-designer Sarah Turner. Be sure not to miss all the festivities in Debbie Bryan’s Lace Market shop tonight, we’re open until 9pm!

As well as all of the excitement of Nottingham Light Night, Debbie Bryan Studio & Shop will also be holding an early viewing of Narrative 2013, an exciting collaboration with the Leicester Print Workshop for the Nottingham Festival of Words. What better to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day than stunning prints inspired by the themes of love and lace.

Debbie Bryan Studio & Shop has so much going on for The Nottingham Festival of words. On 15^th of February between 5-7pm, textile designer Lucy Renshaw will be in our shop selling copies of fabulous textile handbook, a step by step guide to up-cycling, re-cycling and re-crafting. During these same hours poet Deborah Tyler-Bennett will be in our shop giving some unmissable poetry readings. This will be a memorable evening!

The Nottingham Festival of Words is taking place under the season of LACE:HERE:NOW, as season in which Debbie Bryan Studio & Shop played a prominent role. These seasons purpose is to celebrate the great heritage of Nottingham, a history which has always been important to the work of Debbie Bryan.

We hope to see you tonight for drinks with Stella Corral and of course the exciting preview of Narrative 2013, which is officially exhibiting 9^th February – 7^th April.

Nottingham Light Night with Sarah Turner

The fabulous Sarah Turner is an award winning eco designer who creates stunning lighting pieces from reclaimed materials sourced locally in and around Nottinghamshire. During the summer of 2012, Sarah collaborated with Coca Cola to create a lighting fixture for the hospitality centre of the Olympic Park!

This February, for Nottingham Light Night, we’ll be looking at some of Sarah fantastic lighting sculptures and enjoying how light and design can be combined to create such creative results.

Illuminate Nottingham!

Two weeks today and Nottingham will be celebrating its annual Light Night, and this year Debbie Bryan will be doing more than ever before.

One very talented designer whose work we’re really looking forward to showcasing Hannah Nunn. Her lighting pieces have long been catching the eye of visitors to our Lace Market shop, but on Friday 8^th February, Debbie will be selling signed copies of Hannah' new Book  “illuminate”, which also includes Nottingham's own Sarah Turner, just in time for the Nottingham Festival of words.

Nunn’s lighting designs are delicate, unique and very artistic, so be sure to visit our Lace Market shop on Light Night, where you can view Nunn’s work, along with the beautiful lighting creations of Lucy Renshaw, Laura Olivia, Stella Corrall and Laura Turner!

The Poetry of Fashion

The combination of great writing and great fashion could not be found in any better place than in the works of poet Deborah Tyler-Bennett.

This highly talented woman says that her work is influenced by vintage fashion, which is an influence shared by Debbie Bryan Studio & Shop. Deborah looked picture perfect 1950's when she joined Alison Knox and Tina Bettison for a Flash Mob Poetry reading at our shop on 8th December, which was a huge success!

Here is what Decorah had to say about her part in the Nottingham Festival of Words:

“As a Nottinghamshire born writer, it’s always nice to be asked to do something connected with the city of Nottingham. Many of my poems are set in and around the county, featuring some characters based on ancestors in the hosiery-trade who worked as stockingers. So, being Writer in Residence for Nottingham’s first Festival of Words provides me with a wonderful opportunity, both to write about the city and its lace-making/ textile heritage, and to inspire others around the theme of Love and Lace.

When asked to write a short poem on the theme to go on a postcard for the festival, I thought of lace’s delicacy, its ‘heirloom’ qualities, but I also thought of the hard-graft of making it.”

Deborah’s eagerly await poetry reading will be will be on Friday 15^th February from 5pm to 7pm, during the pop-up tea room with Designer Lucy Renshaw, so this is an evening not to miss!

Lucy will be available to sign copies of her fantastic Textile Handbook, a step by step guide to up-cycling, re-cycling and re-crafting.
